Entering Hat Pattern for New Storey Publishing Book
June 24, 2011 by debi.
It has been a crazy week, trying to get all of my projects done. I just made a new hat out of a really fun yarn called Magic Ball. It is so pretty and fun. I am not posting a picture yet, because I am sending it to Storey Publishing, along with the pattern for their new book 101 One Skein Crochet Patterns. I am hoping that they pick this new hat pattern for one of the patterns for the book. It would be really wonderful, if I could get this pattern published. I am also going to be working on some other patterns to send in. Wish me luck.

I love when I can just sit and create things. I seem to get bogged down, when I actually have to finish things. I am still trying to get to the skirt and 2 camisoles to finish and post online. I love the knitting part and I love seeing the finished items, I just wish I had a little elf who would come and sew them all together. I like to sew, I just love knitting and crocheting more. This week has also been busy trying to get boxes packed and sent to my son. He is in Afghanistan for his second tour in Marjah. There are always things that they think they have, and then they get there and realize that they need additional items, like shampoo, socks, food, you know necessities!!! This time should be a much safer tour, and it makes a mom feel much better.I think that it will be next week before I get the camisoles and skirt put together. This weekend is my 17th wedding anniversary with my wonderful husband, so I will actually get to play with him for the weekend, always a fun thing. Tomorrow we are going to dinner at Mataam Fez in Denver for dinner. The memorial weekend that I came to visit and see the house before we got married, we went there, so it will be a wonderful trip down memory lane. It has been a restaurant that we have gone to many times in the past for special occasions. The food is always good, and the entertainment is fun.
3 Tips for Summer Accessories.
1. On cool nights you can use lightweight hand knit scarves or wraps instead of a sweater to warm you up. There are some really pretty ones out there.
2. A hand crocheted clutch or an over a small over the shoulder bag are great ways to add color, texture, and unique style to any outfit, whether day or evening.
3. Summer beanies and cotton lace hats are great for after a day at the beach. They cover your beach hair, which if anything like mine needs to be covered desperately, until I can wash it. There are also some cute hats out that can be worn at the beach to keep the sun off of your face.
Enjoy and experiment with your style.

Inspirational Journals
March 31, 2011 by debi.
I just finished the first 3 fabric covered journals in my new Inspirational line of accessories and gift items. I love these journals and they were fun to make. They are not an original idea, I found the idea in a magazine called LIFE: BEAUTIFUL. I found it at the airport in Mexico, when I took my mom to the airport in February, and the flowers on the front were so beautiful, that I bought the magazine. These journals were one of the craft projects in the magazine. I made one last month to give to my Bible study teacher, and it was just okay. Definitely a work in progress, but these came out beautifully.
I made them by using the 5 x 8 1/4 inch moleskin journals, and covering them with fabric. Then I used cardstock on the inside of the front and back to cover the fabric, and I added an envelope with a card inside with a verse from the bible on the front page of the cardstock. I am enjoying trying to find verses for in the Bible for the journals. These first three journals have HOPE, FAITH, AND GRACE stamped on the front of them. I have also used lace or colored cording to tie them closed.
This is the Grace Journal in the Inspriational line. I just love the colors.
I have also added the FORGIVEN scarf to the website. It was really fun to make. It was knit with white cashmerino and the letters were knit with a red faux fur. Check the new scarf out on my website http://www.dreamsbydebi.com/httpwwwdreamsbydebicomhandknitscarfforgiivenp104html-p-104.html.

Other Parts of the World - Cairo - Egypt
February 7, 2011 by debi.
Egypt is an amazing country, and it is as varied as its people. Sometimes I think that people just see the beauty in big things, and forget to look past at everyday things, to find beauty. We all know the pyramids, the sphinx, a cruise on the Nile, and a mosque are going to be spectacular, but below you will find some things that are also spectacular in an ordinary way.
When we entered the Mosque of Mohammad the rugs on the floor were beautiful, but the lights hanging overhead were beyond spectacular. At one time it was only lite by candles, it must have been magnificent.
We see children everywhere, but sometimes they become invisible. Especially in a country where there is so much poverty. This little boy was with his mom, watching people eating in a restaurant. They were waiting outside of a gift store that we were taken to, and she was begging for money. I saw such despair in her eyes, such hopelessness, but I also saw a woman with dignity. She was beautiful, and so was her son. Beautiful in a different way, but beauty all the same.
I also took a picture of this woman below. She was so elegant. She was covered in the Muslim way, but showing her face. She was so pretty, and refreshing. It was hot outside that day, and dirty, and the rest of us were sweating, but not this woman. She looked calm, cool, and totally unruffled. Ahh, but to look so good, when you are feeling really hot, and to do it with lots of clothing on. I, of course, was wearing jeans, a long sleeved shirt, tennis shoes, and a hat, and was really not looking half as glamorous as this woman.
Cairo was an interesting city, full of opposites, high rises, palaces, hotels, and restaurants, all extravagant, beautiful, and expensive, and so much poverty. It makes the poor in Mexico look rich. I am happy that we got there before all of the rioting started. It helps me to understand what is going on there today.

Life is exciting, interesting, and fun.
February 3, 2011 by debi.
It is amazing what life brings our way, what new things we learn along the way, and how we use all of it in our lives.
So far I have made two websites, and then hired someone to make the 3rd. I had to learn to write html and php, and also had to learn mysql. When I hired people to make me a nice pretty website that has all of the bells and whistles, I thought I might not have to use that stuff anymore. That is not the case. I have still had to try to figure this stuff out, but there is a rainbow after every storm. God has promised that.
So now for the rainbow. I am 52 years old, and was able to learn all of that on my own. I fixed the last thing that needed fixing behind the scenes yesterday. Most of my keywords bring my website up on google, on the first page. Which means I can now focus on the fun part of having my own business, designing.
God gave me many gifts, for which I am forever greatful. One is that I love to design, knit, paint, crochet, take pictures, and see beauty in everyday mundane things. I am posting a picture of a skirt that I saw on a woman in Turkey. You will only see part of it because it is the pattern on the fabric that I loved so much. It is a simple picture, and the pattern is in black and white. Absolutely beautiful. If there is one thing that I really enjoy about this world, it is sharing beautiful things with other people.
I have also been adding new inventory to my website, and I would love you to see this really fun hat, that I made out of a yarn called Ozark Handspun. Here is the link to the page of the hat on my website. Please check it out, and I would love to hear from you.

Check back tomorrow for more pictures, and fun tidbits of information.
And if you are reading this. Thank You!!!

Lots of New Adventures this Year
February 2, 2011 by debi.
The last year and a half have been really busy for me. I am finally getting back to work on my website, adding lots of new inventory.
In some ways it seems like time has flown by, and in others it seems to have gone slowly. Our family is doing well, two kids live in the same town, and are safe and good. One kid, a marine, is also safe and back from Afghanistan.
We have so many changes in our lives as we grown older. Kids are now grown and no longer living at home. Not a sad thing as long as they are doing well. As a couple we get to spend more time together which a great thing. We now have we time, which is something we have not ever really had.
Which now leads me to our adventures. We travel a lot, most of it being for family, but this fall we took a cruise in the Eastern Mediterranean. It was exciting, beautiful, and best of all romantic. Slowly over the next few weeks, I will start posting some of the pictures that I took, and telling stories about the trip.
I am also adding new items to the website everyday, which is also exciting.
Check back to see the pictures of Rome, Capri, Ephusus, Rhodos, Alexandria, Cairo
